What Is Going On Here?! Ep 2 - Making The Cut

Paris you think couture, this beautiful craftsmanship and this artistic flare.

Welcome back reader, to the next review of Making the Cut, episode two! Making Haute Couture. Haute Couture, is just incredible isn’t it? So this week. I will be reviewing, Sabato, Sander and Jonny.

The designers next challenge is to design a Haute Couture runway piece and a commercial replica. This look should be  daring, creative, vivid and obtain a style like no other. The winner will have their look featured in CR Fashion Book! As well as their commercial look selling on Amazon.

The designers were left to soak up the glamour and the french air. So why not visit the Yves Saint Laurent museum. He is known as one the most decorative designers in history. This fashion house has produced some of the most iconic trends in history.

The designers have a beautiful canvas to draw inspiration from, being the home of Haute Couture is a massive challenge. As they shouldn’t replicate anything scene before!

After the research they hit the fabric store. The world of fabrics, Martha again chooses a interesting fabric. It just doesn’t scream innovation. But let’s see what Tim Thinks in their #TimTalk. Duding the second day, Martha decides to venture to the fabric store again. To choose more questionable fabric.

Sabato (Italian Designer and Contestant) I absolutely love this man. Oozing the style and inspiration from his late mother. Delivering a creative garment that will demonstrate him as a designer and as a innovative one. Is just what the judges need to see. The first look, is beautiful, tasteful and inspired by the southern Italy heritage. His first look is for his late mother as a wedding dress!

Oh Jonny (American Designer and Contestant.) He’s made this chic kimono jacket dress. The uses of fabric are fitting and uber fun. I’m excited to see his elaborative runway look.

Inspired by positive and negative space, Sander (Belgium Designer and Contestant)  is very abstract. However, the colour connects well. But the commercial look is a little bit short and is slightly worrying. But I hope he can pull through with some much need exaggeration and couture.

The models are in and Martha is starting to second guess her designs and the fabrics chosen. The pressure there is that she isn’t a sewer and not having that on her side. That can be a worry. “Martha left” Tim shrieks. “Tell me what’s going on!” The dramatics are here.

And I’m living for it! Martha has so much potential, I just don’t want her to loose out.

Cutting to Tim and Heidi’s date night. They are at the Mulan Rouge. Where Heidi does a little dance routine with the leading ladies!  Back to the competition and its show day. I’m worried for Martha, excited to see Sabato’s designs and wondering what shape will come out on the runway first for Sander!

The second runway is about to begin. I’m rating the designers out of ten, from one the lowest and ten being the highest! And an overall thought of the three review designers look. The judges this week are creative director and designer Joesph Altuzarra. And legend fashion editor Carine Noiteld, former editor French Vogue! And with a little bit of Richie, actor and creative director Nicole Richie and finally the legend, the icon Naomi Campbell!

So here it goes, set a beautiful Parisian hotel, set with classic French haute couture style and finished with guests.

Esther - 8

Megan - 8

JI Won - 7

Josh - 6

Will - 5

Rinat - 5

Troy- 6

Martha - 4

Sabato - 9

Sabato, this haute couture runway look is so dainty and has this subtle high fashion presence, it's not arrogant its simple, chic and oozes this effortless style. The commercial piece has this high level of class and style. Its shaping is incredible. Its overall just a perfect match to the runway garment.

Jonny- 7

Jonny’s commercial look was really modern, it has this simplicity to it. But its overall slightly lazy, lacking this more innovative style that he described to Tim. The runway look, is a strong concept. It has more of a story, I see more of who Jonny is a designer with this piece.

Sander - 8

Sanders commercial is really loud, its stylish. I really enjoy the concept of this design.

The runway look is just more, more and more. Its innovative and very creative. It has a real presence on the runway. And does have a more couture look. It could be slightly more fluid in the shape, but it does work well with where fashion is currently.

Overall it was scary to see the show. And the looks were diverse but it was also present that some looks were sloppy and some turn arounds but both positive and negative.

Couture is about perfection, it should be about show stopping.

Sander, had this real strong concept. It was a lot to look at. But it was interesting and fun, it was a little bit of Edwin Mohney and old school McQueen. It spoke volumes, literally!

Martha was the one I was worried about, let me know your thoughts reader. To see Naomi’s face. I was like sis, couture is about respect not just about colourful fabric. She was cut from the competition. I was sad, because she had a lot of potential.

Jonny, was next. I was surprised. Disappointed also, from what I saw previously in the episode. The runway look was creative. But the garments had not a lot of creativity. But the garments were bland. I hoped for this exaggerated, this compliment to couture. “Memorable, that is what you want” commented Naomi. And that is what you want as any designer. I was pleased that he made the cut. I had a breathe of relieve. But I want him to pull out more creativity, to push more boundaries.

Esther and Ji Won both won this week’s competition which was great. I was hoping Sabato would receive some positive thoughts from the judges I hope he does next week.

Till then readers, enjoy!
